The White House has voiced strong opposition to the House GOP's election integrity bill, known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. This bill, sponsored by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) and supported by former President Donald Trump, aims to require proof of citizenship for voter registration, amending the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.

The White House asserts that current laws already prevent noncitizens from voting in federal elections and claims the bill would only make it harder for eligible Americans to register to vote.

Rep. Roy dismissed the White House's criticism, citing the administration's opposition to the bill as evidence of its disregard for the American people's well-being. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) accused Democrats of seeking to grant voting rights to illegal aliens and called for the passage of the SAVE Act, a product of discussions with Trump on election integrity.

The House Rules Committee is poised to consider the bill, setting the stage for a full House vote. However, its prospects in the Senate, controlled by Democrats, remain uncertain.
