Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) took a swipe at an anonymous senior House Democratic figure who allegedly suggested that many within the party have come to terms with the possibility of Donald Trump securing another term in office.

In a direct response to the situation, Ocasio-Cortez urged the unnamed Democrat to step down and allow room for "true leadership that refuses to resign themselves to fascism." She noted, "This kind of leadership is functionally useless to the American people. Retire."

The exchange stemmed from a recent Axios report detailing the shift in focus away from efforts to replace Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket following the recent assassination attempt of Donald Trump.

According to the article, a high-ranking House Democrat, under the cover of anonymity, remarked, "We’ve all resigned ourselves to a second Trump presidency."
