The events began as SWAT and K9 officers were investigating a suspect with a warrant when they spotted a vehicle linked to a recent drive-by shooting.
The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects chose to flee, prompting a pursuit due to the severity of the initial crime.
The pursuit ended with a crash at the intersection involving an armored vehicle and the suspects’ car, as well as the K9 unit. Footage of the collision has been made available through the attached link.
Despite the chaos, three suspects were detained without further incident and were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The injured K9 was taken to a local vet, while all officers involved were promptly transported to the hospital following the incident.
A civilian vehicle narrowly avoided the collision after pulling over upon spotting the oncoming armored vehicle with lights and sirens.
No additional injuries resulted from the suspects’ actions.
“This particular incident highlights the challenges our patrol officers confront daily with the number of shootings they investigate and the behavior of the suspects, not only while committing these violent crimes, but also the great lengths they’ll go to escape. It puts the community at risk,” highlighted Chief Justin Lundgren.
Additionally, Mayor Lisa Brown expressed her gratitude that the incident did not result in loss of life, stating, “Several Spokane Police officers were injured today while making an arrest. Any injury is tragic, but I am grateful it did not result in the loss of life. My thoughts are with the officers and their families.”
