The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office recently made public the body cam footage of a deputy-involved shooting that left a K-9 deputy, named Micky, injured. The incident unfolded as deputies were in the process of serving warrants near Wade Hampton Boulevard on May 13. During the operation, K-9 deputy Micky was stabbed by the suspect, identified as James Edgar Hopkins.
The body cam video, released as part of the standard protocol by the sheriff’s office, offers a glimpse into the series of events that transpired during the confrontation. An internal review conducted by the sheriff’s office concluded that the deputies acted within their authority during the incident.
Following the attack, K-9 deputy Micky underwent critical emergency surgery and has been steadily recovering since.
In response to the assault on K-9 Micky, three deputies discharged their weapons at the suspect, James Edgar Hopkins. The use of force resulted in Hopkins being shot at least once before being transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Officials revealed that Hopkins was the subject of active warrants in Spartanburg County, including charges related to the distribution of methamphetamine first-degree, trafficking heroin/morphine, and failure to appear in court.
