The impersonator brandished a detective shield hung around his neck when he confronted a family trying to access the Whitehall Street-South Ferry R train station through an exit gate on Sunday at approximately 6:35 p.m., according to police accounts.

When a 46-year-old man from the group attempted to distance himself from the fake officer, the impersonator sprayed pepper spray at the back of his head, authorities revealed.
The vigilante boarded a northbound R train, riding a few stops until reaching 8th Street-NYU, where security cameras picked him up, law enforcement disclosed.

Meanwhile, the victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital via private means for treatment and was subsequently released.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 35-year-old Dominic Ogrady, who was last seen wearing ragged denim shorts, a black and yellow T-shirt, a yellow hat, and an NYPD Detective Shield with the number 694 suspended from a chain around his neck.
