Newly released body camera footage documents the events of a tragic shootout in Hillsborough County that resulted in the deaths of a family of three on Saturday night in Tampa. At around 11:09 p.m., law enforcement responded to reports of a son with a gun and a father shot at a residence on Cactus Wren Place.

The shooter, Christos Alexander, aged 19, was found outside alongside his mother. The footage captures a deputy urging the mother to leave the house, instructing the teen to keep his hands up and not reach for his gun, allowing the mother to approach officials. It is reported that Alexander shot his mother and fired at Deputy Shane McGough, aged 26.

Five deputies returned fire at Alexander, who subsequently retreated into the home and barricaded himself. The HCSO SWAT team, crisis negotiators, and a robot were deployed to access the residence, where the deceased father and Alexander were found.

Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the deputies' actions in rendering aid to Deputy McGough and stated that Alexander had a history of altercations with his parents, requiring law enforcement intervention on ten prior occasions.

Sheriff Chronister mentioned an active risk protection order against Alexander, leading to the seizure of his guns, and emphasized the ongoing investigation to determine how the used firearm was obtained. Deputy McGough underwent surgery to remove the bullet from his leg and is expected to recover fully.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident, and Sheriff Chronister requested prayers for Deputy McGough's recovery.
