The Dallas Stars, once comfortably positioned in the NHL's Western Conference finals, are now on the brink of elimination.

The Edmonton Oilers secured the lead in the best-of-seven series three games to two after Friday night's 3-1 victory and need just one more win to secure a spot in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in nearly two decades.

The Oilers caught fire Friday night as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins finally gained some momentum in game five, scoring his first two goals of the series. Edmonton's stifling defense didn't hurt their cause either, allowing only ten shots on goal over the course of the first two periods.

Dallas will look to rally and force a series deciding game seven, joining their fellow Dallas Mavericks in their respective league championships.
