A devastating incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon outside Garfield High School in Seattle, resulting in the tragic death of a 17-year-old student. The Seattle Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 12:30 pm in the 400 block of 23rd Avenue South. Upon arrival, officers discovered the young student with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite extensive lifesaving efforts by law enforcement and the Seattle Fire Department, the victim's condition remained critical as he was swiftly transported to Harborview Medical Center. Regrettably, the young student succumbed to his injuries, marking a heart-wrenching loss for the community.

In the wake of the shooting, Garfield High School was placed under lockdown as a precautionary measure, while nearby schools were urged to take shelter. After a tense period, students were subsequently released at 3:45 pm. As a result of the tragic event, classes at Garfield have been canceled for the upcoming Friday and Monday.

Preliminary findings from law enforcement indicated that an altercation occurred on the school premises, leading to the assailant brandishing a firearm and firing upon the victim before fleeing the scene. Deputy Chief Eric Barden disclosed that the suspect, described as a high school-aged male wearing a red hoodie, light-colored pants, and light shoes, remains at large.

Sources revealed to Seattle Homicide that the victim may have been a local rapper preparing to release a new music video, heightening the sense of shock and grief surrounding the incident.
