Tragedy struck the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills when a shooting incident left nine people injured, including an 8-year-old boy critically wounded in the head and a 4-year-old boy with a thigh injury. A 39-year-old woman, also critically injured, was among the victims, all from the same family.

Following the attack, the suspect evaded authorities, only to be later discovered deceased by suicide in a Shelby Township residence. Additional investigation uncovered a second weapon in the home, described by Bouchard as a potential semi-automatic 223, raising concerns about further planned malfeasance.

The assailant, a 42-year-old white male with no criminal history but reportedly struggling with mental health issues, was found to have been living with his mother. The heartbreak and chaos left the community reeling, as Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett lamented the perversion of a place meant for innocent gatherings and joyful moments.
