Pakistani Lynch Mob Burns Tourist Alive Over Alleged Blasphemy [VIDEOS]

A tourist was killed by a violent mob in Madyan, a town located in Swat district in northwest Pakistan. The crime? The man was accused of blasphemy. According to reports, the police had been attempting to shield the man from the unruly and raucous group. The group had gathered after the man was accused of desecrating the Quran, which is considered a heinous crime in the Islamic country of Pakistan.

Blasphemy is a punishable crime in Pakistan, and, unfortunately, lynchings are not uncommonly seen in such cases. Last month, a Christian man was brutally attacked after being accused of burning pages of the Quran. Video footage of the latest incident has since gone viral and provoked widespread outrage on social media platforms. The videos documented the gruesome events that unfolded, including the man’s body being paraded through the streets and set alight.

While police said that they tried to clear roads to disperse the crowds, Dr. Zahidullah, a police officer in the area, disclosed that the mosque in the vicinity encouraged people to gather before the authorities finally rescued the tourist who was visiting the Swat Valley as a tourist. Reports suggest that 11 people were injured during the incident, and the assailants even torched the body of the purported blasphemer.

The regional police chief, Mohammad Ali Gandapur, accused the local mosque of stirring up the crowd. Meanwhile, eight officers were also among those injured when the frenzied mob took to the streets.
