On the opening day of Oaks Park for the summer season, guests experienced a nightmare as a ride malfunction left them hanging upside down. Portland Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene after the “AtmosFEAR” ride, a spinning pendulum-style attraction, suddenly malfunctioned on Friday evening. A post to X shows the terrifying incident:

Approximately 30 thrill-seekers were stranded in a uniquely scary predicament, suspended upside-down until rescue teams arrived. Fire officials and park engineers worked tirelessly to lower the malfunctioning ride manually. A spokesperson for the Fire Bureau confirmed that the trapped riders were safely evacuated and underwent medical evaluations. “The ride has been manually lowered, and all riders are now being evacuated and medically evaluated,” officials announced.

Fortunately, fire officials reported no serious injuries among the guests. The cause of the ride’s malfunction remains unknown at this time. Oaks Park, known as Oregon’s oldest existing amusement park, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The park, located just 3.5 miles from downtown Portland, has been delighting visitors since May 30, 1905, making it one of the nation’s oldest continually operating amusement parks.
