The New York City Police Department is gearing up to revoke former President Donald Trump’s concealed carry license, according to a senior police official. Trump’s New York concealed carry license was discreetly suspended on April 1, 2023, following his indictment on dubious criminal charges in New York, the official noted.

On March 31, 2023, Trump handed over two of the three pistols he was licensed to carry to the NYPD. The third firearm listed on his license was “lawfully moved to Florida,” according to the source. The NYPD’s Legal Bureau will wrap up its investigation, which “will likely lead to revocation of his license,” according to the senior police official. Trump retains the right to seek a hearing to challenge this revocation.

For more than a decade, Trump has held a license from the NYPD to carry a concealed firearm, as confirmed by multiple law enforcement sources. His application, which included a confidentiality request, exempts it from public records requests per NYPD guidelines and New York state law.

The suspension and pending revocation imply that Trump maintained his license throughout his presidency and afterward, until these politically charged felony charges were brought against him in March 2023.

As a former president, Trump receives full-time protection from the US Secret Service.
