The NFL offseason has been anything but dull, with minicamp practices and contract negotiations stirring up excitement across the league. From Alvin Kamara’s contract dispute with the Saints to the Titans’ strategic signing of Calvin Ridley, major moves set the stage for an intriguing season. Meanwhile, the Jaguars have secured their star quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, with a record-breaking extension, and the Falcons face penalties for tampering violations. Here’s a closer look at these key developments shaping the NFL landscape.
Kamara’s Contract Standoff with the Saints
Alvin Kamara, the star running back for the New Orleans Saints, did not participate in Thursday’s final day of the team’s minicamp practice. Kamara left due to contract-related issues despite being present for the walk-through, according to his agent, Brad Cicala. Kamara has two years left on his deal, but it’s a one-year contract with a base salary of $10.2 million, which is guaranteed for only $1 million. The Saints and Kamara have been discussing a contract restructuring for months, but no progress has been made. Head Coach Dennis Allen confirmed Kamara’s absence but was unaware of the specifics, stating, “I have no idea. I haven’t talked to Alvin so, that’s all I’ve got for you.” By skipping the last day of minicamp, Kamara risks a $16,953 fine. He did not attend OTAs this year, which has been his norm for the past several offseasons.

Titans Boost Offense with Calvin Ridley
One of the significant free-agent signings this offseason was wide receiver Calvin Ridley joining the Tennessee Titans. Head Coach Brian Callahan expressed his satisfaction in acquiring Ridley from their divisional rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ridley signed a four-year, $92 million contract with the Titans. Last season, Ridley recorded 76 catches for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns with the Jaguars. Callahan praised Ridley’s professionalism and talent, noting, “He’s got real talent. He’s one of the better route-runners I’ve been around.” The Titans also added running back Tony Pollard, enhancing an offense that struggled last season. Ridley and DeAndre Hopkins are expected to form a formidable receiving duo for quarterback Will Levis.

The #Jaguars have reached a deal with their star QB Trevor Lawrence. Sources says they are giving the former No. 1 pick a 5-year extension worth $275M — $55M a year — with $200M guaranteed and $142M fully.

Jaguars Secure Trevor Lawrence with Record Deal
The Jacksonville Jaguars have secured quarterback Trevor Lawrence with a five-year, $275 million contract extension, including $200 million guaranteed and $142 million at signing. Lawrence received a $37.5 million signing bonus, tying him with the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow for the highest average annual salary in the NFL at $55 million. Lawrence becomes the ninth quarterback with $100 million or more fully guaranteed. The Jaguars’ first overall pick in 2021, Lawrence, has shown significant improvement under coach Doug Pederson, leading the team to an AFC South title and a dramatic playoff victory last season.

Falcons Penalized for Tampering Violations
The Atlanta Falcons were docked a fifth-round pick in the 2025 draft and fined $250,000 for violating the NFL’s anti-tampering policy. The violations involved improper contact with quarterback Kirk Cousins, wide receiver Darnell Mooney, and tight end Charlie Woerner before their official free agency period. General Manager Terry Fontenot was also fined $50,000. Cousins signed a four-year deal worth up to $180 million with the Falcons. Despite these infractions, the Falcons committed to reviewing and improving their processes. The NFL cleared the Philadelphia Eagles of similar tampering allegations about signing running back Saquon Barkley.
