The Rapidan Dam, located in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, is on the brink of collapse, as per the county government’s official Facebook page. Alarming reports suggest Blue Earth County Emergency Management was notified of “accumulating debris” at the dam on Sunday, and the structure is presently being monitored by Blue Earth County Public Works, Emergency Management, and Sheriffs Offices. The deteriorating conditions have prompted experts to warn of an imminent failure in the coming days.

The Blue Earth County government released a post on Facebook, stating that they do not know “if it will totally fail or if it will remain in place,” but felt compelled to inform downstream residents, regulatory agencies, and local authorities. With “significant cuts around the west side of the dam” and an “increase in debris” entering the river from Xcel Energy and county infrastructure, authorities are working tirelessly to keep the situation under control.
