In a recent episode of The Wayne Dupree Show, host Wayne Dupree and retired Lt. Col. Allen West delved into the aftermath of Donald Trump’s impeachment trial. Dupree questioned the legitimacy of the trial and the motives behind the prosecution, while West argued that the conviction has only bolstered Trump’s popularity, leaving Democrats in a state of confusion.
Wayne Dupree began by asking, “Last time we talked, we’ve seen the New York situation, he court thing come down on Donald Trump, and he said he’s going to appeal. What did you think when you saw that? Did you have any analysis breakdown?”
Allen West responded with a critical perspective on the trial, stating, “I put out a post that basically told the Democrats and the progressive socialists, thank you, congratulations for getting Donald Trump elected. Because when you look at this sham trial that happened up there, first and foremost, you had an attorney. I mean, a district attorney there in Manhattan is more so concerned about going after Donald Trump than real criminals that he has in New York City, and he ran on the mantra that he was going to get Donald Trump.”
West went on to criticize the conduct of the judge and the handling of evidence, saying, “You have a judge who should have recused himself from that trial, and now we know that he withheld exculpatory evidence and exculpatory, I mean, testimony from individuals, like from the Federal Elections Committee, which Commission, which I think would have been very important for people to hear.”
Highlighting procedural issues, West added, “And the other thing that you have to look at is that here was a case that was number one. It was a misdemeanor. It was passed the statute of limitations. So they push it past the statute limitations. They upgraded to a state-level felony, something that the Federal Elections Commission had passed on. They saw nothing wrong with it, and then they go ahead and, you know, convict the guy on these 34 counts.”
Drawing comparisons to past political figures, West noted, “Now, if you go back and you think about John Edwards from South Carolina, the former senator, he used campaign cash to pay off his chick, nothing happened to him. If you think about Bill Clinton, well, we can continue on about Bill. You know all these indiscretions, but nothing happened. As a matter of fact, we were told by, you know, the squirrely little raging Cajun that, you know, this personal, private business, and you shouldn’t be concerned about it. It’s the economy, stupid.”
West concluded by emphasizing the unintended consequences of the trial for the left, stating, “So the left has really dug themselves in a hole, and I think that now when you look at the fundraising and all the increased popularity, they did not get the effect that they wanted, and saying that Donald Trump is now a convicted felon, they’re trying to figure out, how do we kind of unscrew this mess that we have got ourselves into?”
