AQABA, Jordan - Local news reports have confirmed a distressing incident in the southern city of Aqaba, where a man set himself on fire outside a government building last night.

While the exact motive for the act of self-immolation remains unconfirmed, social media users have suggested that the man was protesting the government's alleged support for Israel during its bombing of Gaza. Reports emerged that the protest had taken place outside the Jordanian Presidential Palace in the city, although these claims have not been verified.
Disturbing footage captured the man engulfed in flames as local security forces reportedly fired shots in an attempt to extinguish the blaze.

Following the harrowing incident, the man was swiftly transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
