EAGLE, Idaho – A bar in Eagle, Idaho is making headlines after declaring that it will celebrate “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” in June. The Old State Saloon announced this event on Wednesday, offering discounts and free beer to heterosexual couples and men as a counter to the widely recognized Pride Month for LGBTQ+ individuals.

In a Facebook post, the bar stated, “June will be OSS’s inaugural Heterosexual Awesomeness Month! Come join us all month to celebrate heterosexuals, for without them, none of us would be here! Each Monday will be Hetero Male Monday, and any heterosexual male dressed as a heterosexual male will receive a free draft beer. Each Wednesday is Heterosexual couples day, and each heterosexual couple will receive 15% off their bill.” The bar even advertised for a judge in the comments section to officiate if men’s clothing meets the criteria of being “officially heterosexual,” with a compensation of $15 per hour and free beer.

Subsequently, the bar faced criticism for its announcement, particularly from those who support LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Despite the negative comments, the Old State Saloon remained undeterred. In response, the establishment posted about a “Her Hetero Happy Hour” for women and announced the availability of “Hetero Awesomeness T-shirts.”

Clarifying their stance, the bar emphasized that they welcome LGBTQ+ patrons and would not yield to the vitriolic reactions. In a comment to Fox News [8], owner Mark Fitzpatrick shared his vision of creating a community event center on nearby land to support conservative ideals. Fitzpatrick also disclosed that while the bar has received negative comments, they have also received significant support.
Describing himself as a “Christian, conservative, Constitution supporter, retired police officer, and family man” on his Zillow page, Fitzpatrick has promoted other conservative-themed events on the Old Stage Saloon Facebook page, such as “Open Carry Coffee” and “Christian Singles Mingle.”

Responding to an article by the Idaho Statesman [9] that criticized the bar’s month-long celebration, Fitzpatrick expressed his disappointment with the piece, citing a lack of contact for a quote. In a post on the Old State Saloon Facebook page, he stated, “Idaho Statesman writes a hit piece on me and Old State Saloon and doesn’t even have the courage to call me for a quote. Michael Deeds is a decently talented writer. Too bad so much of it is just so immoral. Viewer discretion advised.” Fitzpatrick further emphasized that he loves people of all types, including the LGBTQ+ community, and expressed his wish for them to know Jesus as their savior. In conclusion, he declared, “Now, let’s commence Heterosexual Awesomeness Month!”
