LAREDO, Tex. - The Texas Department of Public Safety has released new information regarding two recent pursuits in the city, shedding light on the world of human smuggling.

The first incident unfolded on Tuesday evening after Border Patrol alerted DPS troopers about a truck tractor suspected of being involved in human smuggling activities. Despite attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver fled and eventually crashed into a creek near Cheyenne Park. While three individuals were successfully apprehended, the driver managed to evade capture.

"The smuggler recklessly evaded Troopers, ultimately driving through a neighborhood and then off-road through a park.

The smuggler struck an overpass and eventually bailed out. Multiple illegal immigrants, including the smuggler, bailed out. The smuggler avoided apprehension by making it back to Mexico.

DPS officials have revealed that two other individuals, operating a separate car, were also arrested. These individuals were apparently guiding the initial truck tractor to its intended location, highlighting the coordinated nature of these illegal acts. Authorities have identified the arrested suspects as 23-year-old Eladio Galvan and 20-year-old Francisco Colunga.

In a separate incident, a second pursuit unfolded just 6 days earlier. Watch:

"The smuggler rammed a ranch fence during the pursuit and evaded through the brush. The smuggler continued to drive through numerous ranches, ramming five ranch fences attempting to elude DPS Aircraft.

All occupants bailed out and attempted to hide within the brush. With the assistance of DPS Aircraft, #USBP Horse Patrol, and DPS Brush Team, five illegal immigrants and the smuggler were arrested.

The smuggler, Carlos Alberto Urbina Miralda, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was charged with five counts of smuggling of persons, five counts of criminal trespass, five counts of criminal mischief, evading arrest, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Troopers charged all five illegal immigrants with five counts of criminal mischief, five counts of criminal trespass, and evading arrest on foot. One of the illegal immigrants, Nestor Farid Garcia Morales of Mexico, a fugitive, had six outstanding warrants from the Saint Croix County Sheriff's Office in Wisconsin." - Chris Olivarez, Spokesperson with the Texas Department of Public Safety

Sergeant Erick Estrada from the Texas Department of Public Safety explained, "They use to always go back to the locations where they first pick up. They usually choose these locations because usually the water is very shallow, and it’s a very common route they use to cross people. They already know the location, so during our vehicle pursuits, they will often always go back to the same location where they picked up the people and they will swim back."

DPS officials further noted that in these instances, the drivers involved tend to remain on the US side, rather than attempting to flee into Mexico.
