Responding officers found the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Austin Sumpter from Thrall, lying on the front porch with a gunshot wound to his hip. The wounded man was immediately taken to the hospital, where he is being treated for non-fatal injuries.

Upon further investigation, police discovered that the suspect had been carrying a large knife with a sheath on which was inscribed “Hail Satan.”

The incident has prompted charges of burglary of a habitation with commission of a felony, a second-degree felony against Sumpter. However, the charges can only be levied once he is released from medical care and the warrant is served.
