A landmark in Toronto's Little Portugal area, St. Anne's Anglican Church is presently at the center of a raging fire that has prompted the dispatch of several fire engines and evacuation of surrounding buildings. At the site of what police are calling a four-alarm fire, Toronto fire crews are working round the clock to extinguish the uncontrolled blaze.

News captured on X, formerly Twitter, indicates that the Toronto fire service was dispatched shortly before 8 a.m. on X to the Gladstone Avenue church, which was built in 1907-08 in the Byzantine Revival style. As at the time of this writing, no causalities have been reported, the church being unoccupied according to Toronto Fire Services (TFS).

Though the crew has made significant progress in decreasing the size of the growing flames, it has advised people to avoid the area as firefighters continue to tackle the blaze, working on extinguishing spot fires that continue to rise.

The website of St. Anne's Anglican Church highlights its significance in the community. The church is home to precious artwork pieces from prominent Canadian artists including three members of the famous Group of Seven, thereby making it a historical site.

As firefighters continue to fight the growing inferno, it is unknown how extensive the destruction will be to the iconic structure.
