In a heartwarming display of compassion and heroism, two State Farm agents from Arkansas and Tennessee, Bob Gist and Brad Carlisle, alongside local fishing guide Jordan Chrestman, rescued 38 hunting dogs from Grenada Lake in Mississippi during a fishing trip. The canine rescue unfolded when the men heard the distant barking of dogs and spotted the animals struggling in the water.

Gist, recalling the scene, stated, “We’re just flabbergasted because it’s dogs everywhere, and they’re all going in different directions because they can no longer see the bank on either side. And they’re all hunting dogs – we can clearly see that because they have expensive GPS radio collars on them.” The men acted swiftly, pulling dogs onto their boat to prevent them from drowning, with Chrestman, a local fishing guide, being key to their successful rescue efforts.

The dog owners were relieved to have their hunting companions back in their arms. Chrestman turned down any reward for his part in the rescue, earning the admiration and praise of Gist, who described the young guide as the true hero of the day. “That kid had the presence of mind to know, ‘If we don’t do something, there’s going to be 38 dead dogs here.’ And he saved them, I mean we all pulled them in, but that kid is the hero here,” Gist emphasized.
