Food Fight Erupts in California Chipotle, High Minimum Wage & Prices To Blame? [VIDEOS]

On May 31, a California Chipotle restaurant was the scene of an ugly scene. Three customers started throwing food at employees, causing chaos on the premises. Disturbing video footage taken by bystanders shows three women attacking the staff members. One of them even jumped on tables before leaping onto the cash register counter and hurling items at the staff. Meanwhile, two other women climbed over the service counter and joined in the food throwing, leaving onlookers shocked.

The cause of the outburst remains unclear at this time. It is also uncertain whether the law enforcement was involved. However, the Vallejo Police Department confirmed that they are investigating the viral video.

Even after Chipotle raised prices for customers and wages for workers nationwide roughly a month ago, the foot traffic to the restaurant remains consistent, according to Jack Hartung, the CFO of Chipotle. In May, he affirmed that the company raised prices moderately by 6% to 7%. They are watching the customer feedback since they took the price increase, but they did not observe any change in behaviour yet. Hartung also expressed the company’s optimism about its ability to maintain customer loyalty and satisfaction with a sustainable quick-service model.

Additionally, Chipotle has invested in robotics to improve operational efficiency. Hartung explained that they are introducing a new line chef robot exclusively for handling online orders. It will minimize ingredient errors and improve order fulfilment, without cutting human jobs.

Chipotle’s steps align with the industry trend, making it a restaurant chain committed to performance and innovation. The identities and ages of the three women involved in the incident remain undisclosed at this time.
