Sheriff Mike Chitwood of Volusia County Sheriff melted down the badge of disgraced former deputy Stephen Corbin. The symbolic gesture was captured on video and posted on social media, and a class of new Deputy Recruits watched it.
"As promised. I said we would melt down the badge of a former deputy who disgraced our agency (Stephen Corbin). Here it is, with our current class of Deputy Recruits watching,” Chitwood declared in the video.

The dramatic melting of Corbin's badge follows a series of events that led to his arrest and resignation. Last month, Corbin was accused of threatening a woman with arrest if she did not perform a sex act on him. The incident took place in Daytona Beach during the early hours of the morning. Although Corbin was off duty and dressed in plain clothes, he was driving a marked patrol car.

The victim reported that Corbin held her against her will and made coercive threats. After negotiating her release, she immediately contacted the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD). The investigation revealed evidence of another assault by Corbin earlier the same day.

Upon learning of these allegations, Sheriff Chitwood acted swiftly, initiating the process to terminate Corbin's employment. Rather than face termination, Corbin resigned the same day. In an official statement, Chitwood expressed his deep disappointment: "To say I’m disappointed in his behavior is an understatement. His actions not only discredit his own name but tarnish the Sheriff’s Office badge and the reputation of our entire organization."
The DBPD conducted an investigation, establishing probable cause to arrest Corbin. He was charged with two counts each of bribery, battery, false imprisonment, and solicitation to commit prostitution. Corbin was arrested.

Sad state of affairs. Worked in Law Enforcement 24 years. Never dropped my pants. I knew some guys who took a ” bush bond ” but I just could not do it. I hate to see a Deputy fall like this. Melting the badge is a little bit to dramatizing as far as I am concerned. But, hey I ain’t the Sheriff, anymore.
You knew and you did nothing? Sick, just as sick as the language you’ve used, the guy above and the ones for whom you turned your head away, so they could use their office to harass and harm others. Although, I’m sure you don’t get it, brothers-in-arms and all.
YOU WERE/ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. Very happy you are not on the streets under color any longer.
In Britain the Met police handcuff, kidnap, rape and murder young women, it makes what Stephen Corbin look really tame in comparison.
Who hired him? Uhh, wasn’t it YOU sheriff?
His tribunal should take 3 minutes and upon his conviction, he should be walked out back to the gallows..
Of course his trial will take a year and his sentence will be 30 years.
This is why monsters feel free to be monsters..
Of course, I would be remiss if I did not mention that this monster, was hired, trained and certified by this department… What went wrong? Nothing,, that is what LEO agencies recruit, hire, train and certify.
Law enforcement requires stringent pre-employment scrutiny of recruits and enforcement of professional standards for officers. Cops have almost as bad a reputation of corruption as politicians. How low can you go?
Well done, Sherriff. I Like the way that Deputies badge was melted down in front of Students and on video as well for the World to see. This is making a +++ example. What disgrace for Coben. Even his badge with his reputation cleaned and destroyed off the Slate of Law and Order and LIFE itself. Prison inmates waiting for the new ‘lady’!
put him in prison, inmates will provide the justice
I dont know the details of this case or the allegations brought against this officer…BUT “American Juris Prudence” says…A man IS innocent until proven guilty, NOT the other way around. 10 guilty men should go free to avoid the conviction of 1 innocent man….think Trump or better yet Office Chauvin and George Floyd…jmho.
