Ormond Beach, Florida – A man, Adam McDaniel, is being praised as a hero by the Ormond Beach Police for his courageous intervention in thwarting a carjacking attempt involving an elderly couple and a suspect at a gas station near Interstate 95.

The incident occurred at the Exxon station on US-1, just off the interstate, as the couple parked their car. The carjacking suspect, Marvette Perry, reportedly seized the opportunity and jumped into their vehicle.

Adam McDaniel, who happened to be at the same gas station at the time, noticed the suspicious behavior of Perry. With his 3-year-old daughter in the back seat of his own vehicle, McDaniel instinctively took action to protect his family and the elderly couple. He retrieved his firearm as a precaution and pointed it at Perry when she attempted to abscond with the couple’s car.

According to the police, Perry attempted to drive away with the couple’s car while the wife was still inside, but the husband managed to grab Perry’s leg, preventing her from fleeing. With McDaniel keeping his firearm trained on Perry, another bystander swiftly contacted the authorities.

Police body camera footage captured the timely arrival of law enforcement officers, who apprehended Perry after a brief struggle, during which she resisted arrest. Adam McDaniel, amidst the chaotic ordeal, assisted by retrieving the fallen body camera to ensure crucial evidence was preserved.

Reflecting on the dramatic turn of events, McDaniel remarked on the unexpected conclusion to their family vacation, emphasizing the heartening interaction between his daughter and a police sergeant, who commended his heroic actions.

Currently, Marvette Perry is remanded in the Volusia County jail, with no bond set pending further legal proceedings. This remarkable intervention by Adam McDaniel serves as a testament to the impact of swift, decisive action in safeguarding the community from criminal activity.
