Salisbury, NC – A harrowing incident took place in Salisbury in the early hours of Friday when a man was shot while trying to stop two individuals from breaking into his car. The Salisbury Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the matter.

According to police reports, the incident unfolded around 12:30 a.m. at a residence on Winston Lane. The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, recounted that he became aware of the break-in attempt after hearing his dog barking persistently. Concerned for his property’s safety, he decided to investigate the commotion.

Sergeant Justin Crotty, spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department, shared details of the encounter. The victim spotted two masked individuals dressed in black garments attempting to break into a vehicle on his property. Reacting swiftly, the homeowner retrieved his firearm, intending to deter the criminals.

As the homeowner confronted the suspects, they swiftly responded with aggression. The two assailants fired two shots at the man, striking him once in the face. In self-defense, the victim fired a single shot but was unsure if he hit either of the assailants. The criminals subsequently fled the scene on foot.

Following the incident, the victim’s wife promptly rushed him to the nearby Salisbury Fire Department station on South Main Street. There, he received immediate medical attention for the non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his cheek. He was subsequently transported to a hospital for further treatment.

Sergeant Crotty emphasized that the Salisbury Police Department is actively investigating the incident and collaborating with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office to identify potential suspects. Authorities are determined to bring those responsible for this alarming crime to justice.
