On June 25th, in Florida’s Broward County, a middle school teacher, Quinton Womack Wedlaw, 25, was arrested on ten counts of child pornography. Wedlaw, employed as a summer camp counselor in Fort Lauderdale, was taken into custody by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
Police documents reveal that Wedlaw, also a teacher at Parkway Middle School in Fort Lauderdale, was allegedly caught with a disturbing collection of over 25 videos depicting child pornography on various electronic devices. Reports indicate that a tip from Google alerted authorities to Wedlaw’s illicit activities, according to WSNV [1].
Prosecutors pushed for Wedlaw to be held without bail, citing concerns over his choice of professions and the nature of the allegations against him. However, Wedlaw’s attorney argued for leniency, emphasizing that this was his client’s first brush with the law. The judge set Wedlaw’s bail at $200,000.
Making bail, Wedlaw was released under strict conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device, abstinence from internet access, prohibition from contacting minors, and staying away from locations with children such as schools and parks.
In response to the situation, the Broward County Public Schools system issued a statement acknowledging Wedlaw’s arrest.
