An illegal alien, David Antonio Calderon from El Salvador, has been charged with murder in connection to the death of a woman in West Virginia. This unsettling revelation sheds light on the inherent dangers posed by individuals who circumvent the legal immigration process.
Berkeley County Sheriff Rob Blair expressed his dismay at the situation, emphasizing the urgent need for reform within the U.S. immigration system to prevent such incidents from recurring. Calderon, a Salvadoran national, was apprehended after authorities responded to a distressing scene in Martinsburg on May 6, where a charred body was discovered in a field.
Calderon’s journey to the U.S. was marked by a troubling history of criminal activities in El Salvador. Having been incarcerated in his home country since 1999, he was released in 2021 only to allegedly enter the U.S. unlawfully. Border authorities encountered Calderon in March 2023 at the U.S.-Canada border, yet his request for asylum was denied, prompting his return to U.S. custody.
As investigations unfold, it has been revealed that Calderon’s criminal record in El Salvador is replete with offenses ranging from DUIs and narcotics-related crimes to sexual assault/murder and aggravated robbery. Despite this checkered past, he was reportedly released back into the U.S. after being stopped at the border, purportedly due to a lack of available detention space.
The gravity of Calderon’s actions came to the forefront when he was arrested in Frederick County, Va., this month on malicious assault charges involving three victims, two of whom were attacked with a baseball bat, while the third victim was stabbed. Subsequently, he was charged with the murder of the unidentified woman, leading to his custody in Virginia pending extradition to West Virginia.
This horrific incident adds to a growing list of crimes allegedly committed by illegal aliens, underscoring the immigration-related challenges faced at both the state and national levels. Notably, a recent case involving another Salvadoran national apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Virginia for prior convictions of sexual battery against a woman further highlights the complexities and repercussions of illegal immigration.
The need for stricter immigration measures and enhanced enforcement mechanisms is becoming increasingly evident as communities grapple with the fallout of criminal acts perpetrated by those who have flouted the law and evaded proper legal channels.
