In a bizarre turn of events, an alligator in Georgia found itself in police custody after wandering into a resident’s driveway near Savannah. Video footage released by the Chatham County Police Department on May 25 showcased the unconventional “arrest” of the unwelcome visitor.
The incident saw Cpl. Blackledge and Cpl. Stapleton of the Chatham County Police Department taking proactive measures to handle the unexpected gator appearance. The officers were filmed capturing the gator, efficiently loading it into the back of a patrolling vehicle, and subsequently releasing it back into the wild, as per the department’s Facebook post.
The bodycam footage revealed the officers skillfully securing the alligator’s mouth and carefully placing the reptile in the police car before eventually setting it free in its natural habitat.

The local community commended the officers for their courageous handling of the situation, expressing gratitude for the swift and composed removal of the gator from the neighborhood.
The Chatham County Police Department highlighted that encounters with alligators are not uncommon in the area, acknowledging several similar incidents in recent years. The department commended Cpl. Blackledge and Cpl. Stapleton for their prompt and composed efforts in relocating the gator to the Ogeechee River, emphasizing the bravery required in handling and transporting the reptile.
